BBQSav'r Patent # US 6,684,757 B2

When using a gas grill to BBQ food, it is common that the grill is turned on and allowed to heat up prior to grilling. Food is then placed on the grill, cooked, and removed from the grill.
Many times the user of the grill then decides to leave the burners on so the remnants of food may be burned off.
At this point many things can happen:

1) The grill becomes very hot and may become a fire hazard or could burn a child’s hand.
He or she then leaves the grill and returns to the kitchen, or dining area, where they enjoy their grilled food.
Remembering to return to the grill and shut the burners off is often forgotten.
2) Propane in the tank, or natural gas in the line, is wasted.  Propane fuel burns until the tank is empty.
3) It is a hassle the next time the user decides to cook on the grill.  They must remove the tank and make a visit to a propane vendor.
Benefits of BBQSav'r.

Ask anyone if they have ever used their grill and forgot to turn it off!  Chances are they have forgotten more than once!

1)  By using my inexpensive safety valve that BBQSav'r provides, you set limits on the time the grill is allowed to run.

2)  BBQSav'r adds safety, and saves gas.

3)  BBQSav'r gives you peace of mind knowing your grill will be turned off safely.

4)  No longer do you have to open and close the propane cylinder.  Just press the reset button on BBQSav'r       to start grilling.
BBQSav'r Timer

The latching valve has one 9 volt battery powering the BBQSav'r electronic timer.  A multifunction push button switch acts as a reset and a time setting control.  This allows the user to set the timer at 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes.  The time intervals are indicated by the speed of a flashing LED.
Mechanical Function of BBQSav'r

BBQSav'r is installed between the propane tank and BBQ pressure regulator connection.  See Below
The latching valve is in the open position when grilling.  At the preset time  BBQSav'r sends an electric pulse to the latching valve to close.
By closing the latching valve,    BBQSav'r saves the gas in the propane tank or your natural gas coming to your house.

No more burning gas until the tank is empty thanks to BBQSav'r.  No more wasting natural gas and driving up your natural gas bill.
Resetting BBQSav'r

On the next BBQ grilling, reset     BBQSav'r by pressing the multifunction push button switch.
Example 1

User Turns off Grill Before Preset Time

If the time preset on the BBQSav'r is 45 minutes and the grill is manually turned off in 32 minutes, there would be no action by the BBQSav'r.

Example 2

BBQSav'r Preset Time is 45 Minutes
This is the preferred way

After 45 minutes logs on the timer, the BBQSav'r terminates the gas flow by closing the latching valve.

9 Volt Battery

Power is only used during grill usage and to close or open the latching valve.

The BBQSav'r has a low battery shutoff feature.  Once the battery life drops to 7 volts; the latching valve closes terminating gas flow.  In order to reopen the valve so the grill will function, a new battery must be installed.

The battery shutoff feature prevents a situation were the battery looses power and the BBQSav'r is expected to function, but cannot, due to a low power.

Reset Button Pressed, But
Grill is not Being Used

After approximately seven minutes, BBQSav'r checks the grill temperature.  If there is not an increase in temperature. BBQSav'r closes the latching valve.

The BBQSav'r timer can be preset between 15 to 60 minutes to accrue before sending an electric pulse to the latching valve.
A thermostat switch is mounted to a heat surface at the back of the grill.  Once the grill heats up, the thermostat switch starts the timing function of the BBQ Sav'r
